Antonio beniquez | urban mixed media
Antonio, a Chicago native out of the Humboldt Park Neighborhood was heavily influenced by gang art and graffiti that masked the walls of the inner-city he grew up in.
At the age of 6 he won his first school art contest that came with a scholarship to The Art Institute of Chicago. It was at that moment Antonio started to realized he had something unique to offer and could potentially make a living doing what he enjoyed. However not having had any formal guidance in pursuing a career in the arts and the fear of becoming a "starving artist", he decided to go college to secure a stable future. Years later with formal education under his belt and a steady paycheck coming in, Antonio began to revisit his passion.
Today, he has sold multiple works throughout the city in prominent urban and contemporary art galleries and is consistently sought after for commissioned large scale murals. He's also ventured into metal art sculptures incorporating his modern calligraphy typography, which is a signature feature in most of his work.
