"Help save a life before it's too late."
My name Warren, and I am 21 years old. I have been involved with music since I was little. My family is very musically orientated. I started to sing publicly my freshmen year at UIC, and joined a singing group called FIWLiwan. They really helped me come out of my shell. I am a very shy person, so singing in public was so nerve wrecking for me and still is. But once I crossed into my fraternity Theta Lambda Beta I was able to become more and more comfortable. I would sing at some of our events and I really enjoyed it. Then I joined Ascension Performing Arts this season, which I am very happy about. They are really helping me grow as an artist and really hone my craft. I really love how they critique my performances and help me better my performance and vocal techniques. I don’t have a specific genre that I usually sing, but my go to style of songs are ballads, R&B Soul, opera and theatrical.
why this cause matters to the artist
My cause is Hope for a Day. This charity group raises money and awareness for mental health and suicide. They’re main focus is suicide prevention. "Suicide completion rates have surged to a 3o-year high. In America, nearly 44,000 people die by suicide every year, averaging 121 suicide completions each day” (Hope for a Day). By supporting Hope for a Day you will be funding money for mental health education.
This cause touches home for me because I also suffer from mental illness. I was diagnosed with bi-polar disorder/manic depression this past year. However, I have been dealing with this depression since I was in elementary school. Back then I didn’t know or understand what depression was until high school. I tried to block it out by getting involved in a lot of sports and activities, but they never seemed to work. From all the way back in middle school up until now I have had 5 suicide attempts. I have been hospitalized in a mental institution twice for suicide.
After my last hospitalization I decided to make a change in my life. I took a stand and got help from therapists and doctors. I no longer want to be a victim of my depression and no longer owned by my mental disorder. Plus, with the help of God and support from my friends and family, I am finally finding the light at the end of my tunnel. It is a very hard process but I know that I will get better. That is why I would be so very happy if you can donate to my cause Hope for a Day so that you can help other people who are suicidal or suffering from illness, to get the help and recourse to get better. You can help save someone’s life before it is too late.
